My aim was to realise a project that I have been slowly developing over the last 30 years, that of moving through the landscape to capture “the sprit of place”. Although this has been touched upon and indeed been the underlying basis for much of my work I hadn't completed a major project that brought all of these landscape interests together.

The original proposal took as a narrative a simple line drawn across the land, but as I immersed my self in the land itself and began to drill down to my own underlying motives I began to see the need for a stronger storyline, one that could thread the objectives together in a more fundamental and human way. I did a lot of research both through 3rd party works on the subject of land art and through my own copious notebooks and media filled with ideas and sketches, of both creative and technical content collected over the last 3 decades.
It was through this research that an awareness of a kind of “Celtic Song lines” began to emerge, a need to place a more mythological dynamic at the core of the work, effectively the “singing” of the land into being. Thus the LP now embodies a fundamental story of a journey from birth to death, from sleep to an awakening, from formless to form that is mirrored by the bumps and hollows of the evolving land.
